European Alder is found in the Northern Hemisphere (Europe, Russia, Western Asia and Japan) Red Alder is a native of the Pacific Coast from S.E. Alaska, south through British Columbia, Washington and Oregon to Southern California.

Attributes : European Alder is mostly straight grain, the colour ranges from an orange-red and subsequently darkens to a reddish-white or brownish-red. The veneer has fine streaks spread almost entirely over the whole sheet.

Finishing : Alder is very suitable for polishing / staining, were preference would be given to oils and waxes.
